SOAIY Aurora Projector Review

Editor rating: 4/5

The SOAIY Aurora projector is a unique take on the ever-popular galaxy light. Most lamps on the market today produce a similar image. They create nebula clouds and a grid of stars to simulate a journey through space.

This model does things a bit differently! It uses LED lights to replicate the gorgeous aurora effects. Bouncing swathes of color dance throughout the room, bringing the astronomical wonder right into your home.

The Aurora night light projector has a lot to offer. But is it good enough to warrant a purchase? With this review, we're going to help you figure that out!

SOAIY Aurora Projector Review

The SOAIY light is a beautifully designed gadget that can put on a celestial light show. To help you decide if it's right for you, we're going to take a look at everything from its performance capabilities to its usability.

Ease of use

Using this device is pretty straightforward. One of its strongest suits is its simplicity.

When you look at the device, you'll notice that it lacks a full control panel. You're not going to find a complex control panel or tons of buttons. In fact, you might be hard-pressed to see any buttons at all upon first glance!

The only control buttons are discreetly placed on the bottom edge. There are only three buttons to worry yourself with. These include a centrally located power button and two volume buttons.

So how do you manipulate the performance features? Well, this system comes with remote control! The remote provides greater flexibility. It has 30 color-coded buttons that let you adjust the audio playback features, light patterns, and more.

The ease of use is respectable. However, we do foresee problems with the limited controls on the projector itself. It's nice to keep things clean and simple. But what if you lose the remote? We would have liked it if SOAIY added a few more ways to adjust the lighting features without resorting to the remote.

Features

The Aurora projector is quite feature-rich compared to other space-themed lights on the market. Most are basic, containing only a few rudimentary lighting options. Fortunately, that's not the case with this unit.

In addition to the lights, you're getting a speaker and white noise generator. We'll get into the details of sound quality in a bit. For now, let's talk about how these features work.

The projector utilizes Bluetooth technology to stream music wirelessly. Pairing is a cinch and only takes a few minutes. Once you establish your first connection, you can effortlessly reconnect in seconds. Stream from a smartphone, tablet, or computer. Music emits from the speaker grille on the rear.

We also like the white noise generator. It comes with six different sounds. These include standard white noise static, thunder, ocean waves, rain, a babbling brook, and a natural summer night.

You can turn the sound on with the remote. Each one has its own dedicated button.

Performance

Now, onto the light performance. At the end of the day, the light show will be the most important element of this device. We're happy to say that it does not disappoint.

The lighting system is unique. Usually, projectors utilize laser diodes or deeply embedded LEDs that you can't from the exterior. With the SOAIY Aurora, the light elements are on full display. The most prominent feature of this projector is the large disc of LED lights.

The LEDs shine red, blue, yellow, and green. You can choose to enjoy one color on its own. However, the magic appears when you set the projector to cycle through them all at once. In this mode, the colors combine to create rich purple hues, vibrant pinks, and everything in-between! It's like having a full RGB system without all of the complexity.

To add even more realism, the LEDs rotate. You can turn this feature on or off at will. However, we recommend taking advantage of it for the ultimate color show.

The most exciting part of the lighting system is the lens. The LEDs sit below the lens, which is faceted and somewhat hazy. As the light shines through, it bounces through the angled cuts to create a unique display. The lens cut is responsible for the aurora effect, and it does a fantastic job of recreating it!

Whether you use it in a child's room or a home theater, the effect is soft and awe-inspiring.

What's In The Box?

SOAIY included everything you need to get up and running in no time! The box is simple. However, it does a fine job of keeping everything safe during transit. Plus, it bundles everything together for easy gifting.

Inside the box, you'll find the night light projector in a cocoon of protective cardboard. Remove that and dig a little deeper to find the accessories. The Aurora projector comes with a USB cord, an AC adapter, and a remote control. You'll also find a brief instruction manual and some safety information.

We appreciate the fact that SOAIY included a power adapter and USB cord. Many night lights use USB power these days. However, not all of them come with an adapter! As a result, you have to rely on an existing adapter or plug the unit into a power bank or computer. We're glad that SOAIY includes an adapter in the box so that you can forgo all the unnecessary stuff.

Another perk is the length of the USB cord. It's 1.8 meters, which is roughly six feet long. While not the longest in the world, it gives you plenty of wiggle room when trying to figure out where to put the light.

Controls & Functionality

As mentioned earlier, controlling the Aurora night light projector is very easy thanks to the remote control. The buttons on the unit itself are pretty limited, but the remote makes up the difference.

The projector is quite flexible, giving you plenty of ways to fine-tune the experience. Control the light pattern, rotation, and brightness. In particular, the brightness feature is quite useful if you plan on putting the light into a bedroom.

Three brightness levels are available. You can dim it down for light sleepers or pump it up to maximum brightness if you want to enjoy the show!

Another feature we like is the timer. With a press of a button, you can set the projector to shine for one, two, or four hours. You can also turn it off completely to enjoy it around the clock. Once the timer reaches zero, the lights will shut off automatically to conserve power and avoid potential damage.

Overall, the control scheme and various functions are easy to set up or manipulate.

However, we would be remiss if we didn't mention the strange button combinations. Manipulating certain features isn't as straightforward as we would have liked. The remote can only hold so many buttons, so SOAIY had to make some do double-duty. Unfortunately, this leads to some confusion.

For example, setting the volume for media playback is pretty straightforward. But, adjusting the volume when listening to one of the white noises requires weird button combination presses. All of those combinations are readily available in the instruction manual, and you can quickly learn to remember them. However, you may find yourself mashing buttons in confusion before deciding to read the literature.

Sound Quality

The sound quality of the speakers is solid and respectable. While the drivers are small, they're positioned in a way that's conducive to listening. You'll notice that you have a stereo pair that directs sound waves away from each other. That's pretty rare for a device this small. Usually, you'd only see a mono stereo. The fact that this gadget is sporting a stereo pair is impressive.

That said, you should manage your expectations accordingly. The Aurora night light projector is still small and compact, so it doesn't have the booming drivers you need to get crisp audio.

The quality will start to degrade most when you increase the volume significantly. The speakers may begin to fail, resulting in thin and unattractive sound. Some even say that they experience distortion that resembles clipping.

It's better to keep the volume at moderate levels to enjoy distortion-free tunes.

Durability

We enjoy the design of this projector! It's unlike others you see on the market. SOAIY made the housing relatively flat, which helps to provide more stability on a table or dresser.

The gadget is made out of plastic. It's not going to hold up well to outdoor use, so keep it inside. However, the innovative design is beautiful, and the product is well-made. What more could you want?

Customer Service & Guarantee

SOAIY is not a well-known brand, which might send up some red flags. But, the company does a fantastic job of communicating with customers.

You can contact the brand directly through the Amazon sellers page. They are responsive and usually answer questions quickly.

SOAIY also offers a generous one-year warranty. If any issues pop up within the first year of ownership, SOAIY may cover replacement or repair costs. The warranty does come with some stipulations. You can contact SOAIY directly for more information about it. The Aurora projector also comes with some printed warranty information in the box.
